㈠ <秘密花园>作者英文简介

introction

Frances Hodgson Burnett, (November 24, 1849 - October 29, 1924) was an English– playwright and author. She is best known for her children's stories, in particular The Secret Garden, A Little Princess, and Little Lord Fauntleroy.

Life and work
Born Frances Eliza Hodgson in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, she emigrated to Knoxville, Tennessee in the United States after the death of her father in 1865. The family lived in bad circumstances, since the promised support from a maternal uncle was nonexistent. Following the death of her mother in 1872, 18 year old Frances found herself the head of a family of four younger siblings. She turned to writing to support them all, with a first story published in Godey's Lady's Book in 1868. Soon after she was being published regularly in Godey's, Scribner's Monthly, Peterson's Ladies' Magazine and Harper's Bazaar. Her main writing talent was combining realistic detail of working-class life with a romantic plot.

She married Dr. Swan Burnett of Washington, D.C. in 1873.

Her first novel was published in 1877; That Lass o' Lowrie's was a story of Lancashire life.

After moving with her husband to Washington, D.C., Burnett wrote the novels Haworth's (1879), Louisiana (1880), A Fair Barbarian (1881), and Through One Administration (1883), as well as a play, Esmeralda (1881), written with William Gillette.

In 1886 she published Little Lord Fauntleroy. It was originally intended as a children's book, but had a great appeal to mothers. It created a fashion of long curls (based on her son Vivian's) and velvet suits with lace collars (based on Oscar Wilde's attire). The book sold more than half a million copies. In 1888 she won a lawsuit in England over the dramatic rights to Little Lord Fauntleroy, establishing a precedent that was incorporated into British right law in 1911.

In 1898 she divorced Dr. Burnett. She later re-married, this time to Stephen Townsend (1900), her business manager. Her second marriage would last less than two years, ending in 1902.

Her later works include Sara Crewe (1888) - later rewritten as A Little Princess (1905); The Lady of Quality (1896) - considered one of the best of her plays; and The Secret Garden (1909), the children's novel for which she is probably best known today. The Lost Prince was published in 1915, and The Head of the House of Coombe was published in Canada in 1922.

In 1893 she published a memoir of her youth, The One I Knew Best of All. From the mid-1890s she lived mainly in England, and in particular at Great Maytham Hall (from 1897 to 1907) where she really did discover a secret garden, but in 1909 she moved back to the United States, after having become a U.S. citizen in 1905.

After her first son Lionel's death of consumption in 1890, Burnett delved into spiritualism and apparently found this a great comfort in dealing with her grief (she had previously dabbled in Theosophy, and some of its concepts are worked into The Secret Garden, where a crippled boy thinks he can heal himself through positive thinking and affirmations). During World War I, Burnett put her beliefs about what happens after death into writing with her novella The White People.

Frances Hodgson Burnett died in Plandome, New York and is buried in Roslyn Cemetery nearby, next to her son Vivian. A life-size effigy of Lionel stands at their feet.

㈢ 秘密花园英文的读后感200字带翻译

The book tells of a little girl who, when she lost her loved one, was lodging at her relatives'house, developed a curiosity about a forbidden garden that had been abandoned for a long time. She went on an "expedition" with her sick cousin, a friend she accidentally met here, and after getting acquainted with it, they went every day for a while. My cousin's illness was miraculously good.
Read this story, let me understand the truth, that is the magic of nature. People must have green life, such as oxygen bar, if there is no green leaves, there is no oxygen, there is no oxygen, human beings can not survive without oxygen. In addition, green can also make us change our mood, happy, as the saying goes: three laughs a day, do not take medicine.
So, love the green! Love nature!

㈨ 秘密花园英语简介,包括出版社,时间等

Mary Lennox lives with her rich parents in India. No one has ever really cared for her; hardly anyone knows she is even there. One day a cholera epidemic breaks out and nearly everyone dies. Mary hides in the nursery and when she wakes up the next morning, there is no one left. She is sent to England where her uncle, Archibald Craven, lives. A woman called Medlock is sent to take her to the manor. Normally the 500 year old Misselthwaite Manor on the Yorkshire moors isn’ a place for a child to grow up. There are about a thousand rooms, hundreds locked, so no one can go in. There is a big mystery about a secret garden that had been locked up ten years ago. A young housemaid called Martha has to look after Mary. First Mary doesn’t like her much, but because Martha is so nice and funny she soon starts liking her. Martha gives her a skipping rope, so Mary can play in the many gardens of Misslethwaite Manor. In the gardens she meets Ben Weatherstaff, an old gardener, and his robin. The robin becomes Mary’s first friend. He shows her the key to the secret garden and also the door hidden under thick ivy. As soon as she enters the garden, it becomes her own little mystic world. One day she hears cries and looks for the person (It isn’t the first time she has heard it, but every time she wanted to look somebody stopped her and gave her some explanation). In a room behind a tapestry she finds a boy, Colin Craven, her cousin. He can’t walk nor stand up, and everybody thinks that he’s going to die. His father has never wanted to see him because he’s so different from his dead mother. With Dickon, Martha’s brother, and Mary he goes into the secret garden in a kind of a wheel chair, and learns to walk. They all say it’s “Magic” that made all these wonders possible: Colin’s walking, Mary’s change into a nice girl and her joy in the secret garden.
